He's been enjoying his alone time with Emma and being completely honest he wasn't all that ready to share her with the world. They had so much fun just by being inside and together … not thinking much about what all of this was really doing to them. They were getting used to sleeping together again, snuggling into each other, holding one another. It all came so natural and none of them noticed it until it started getting way too serious. He was making her breakfasts in bed, they would shower together, but most of all … they would talk, really talk, not bang and talk, but just lay in bed and talk about stuff. Real stuff.

So he made a reservation at their favourite place in town, a beautiful table for two, just to give her a nice reminder of what they were getting themselves into. Of course their deal still stood - just sex, no strings attached - but he had to make sure it was still only that. "Emma, we have a reservation at nine, it's ten to, hurry up," he yelled from downstairs, sick of waiting. It didn't help much, but she eventually showed up, wearing one of her black dressed with an open back, her hair beautifully braided and put up. "You clean up well, Emma," he led her out the door and they were at Il Fortico in no time. The hostess led them to their table and brought glasses of champagne, the same one they'd drank on their wedding day. How nostalgic. "So, to you and the two amazing children you've given me."

she had a dinner out with jack and she was getting ready. it wasn’t such big of a deal, right? she checked her look in the mirror and smiled. she always liked that black dress and it suited her. it revealed just enough skin and it made her feel amazing. she heard jack calling and sighed, picked up her purse and walked downstairs. ”I’m coming,” she had to smile, because it was actually kinda amusing how impatient he was all of a sudden. well, okay, she did take her time as well. ”why thank you,” her face lightened up with a smile as he complimented her. the stupid attack didn’t even matter anymore.

and then they were at the restaurant and it all felt quite nice. she had her glass and she was looking at him now as he toasted. yeah, he was pretty amazing for saving her in the first place and then he took excellent care of her. he did all those little things for her and she was actually kinda happy. ”and to you, because I honestly don’t know what I would do without you in those past days,” she smiled with one of her loveliest smiles and she tasted the wine she recognized in a second. ”well this certainly brings back memories,” she commented with a wide smile on her face and then looked at him again. ”but seriously, jack. thank you.”

They had a whole night ahead and enough time to talk everything out, so there was really no need to start nagging right after they've gotten there. She was in a good mood and he didn't want to spoil all that, because he could very well remember the annoyed Miss Thompson. "Oh, yes, it does. it's Moet, the very same we drank, you know, on our wedding day. Thought you liked it back then," he smiled back at her, his fingers wrapped around the glass. He hasn't tasted it himself, but they had time. But on another note, he seriously shouldn't exaggerate, he still had to drive home.

"Why are you thanking me, Emma? It's my job to protect my family, and you gave me it. I would be nothing without you and … I'm really happy you're back. For Jamie and Jill … and for me." Well, she didn't really come back for him, he did still remember their first encounter … it didn't end well. Okay, it actually ended up in them having sex, but it was angry sex, full of lust still, but none of it would have happened if they didn't start a fight. "How are you feeling though? You got your colour back, you seem happier, how's everything?" He didn't remember when he's last checked on her bruises, because she refused to really talk about the assault, but he guessed it was best to let her do what she felt was right. "I'm still worried about you."

she had to smile. “well, it was our wedding day and I was very much in love and I liked everything,” back then she actually believed he was the love of her life. she still remembered how proud and happy she felt because she was allowed to call him her husband and the way he was treating her… it made her feel special and almost perfect. well, it was similar to the way he was treating now. but they ended up being a really… what were they anyway? close friends with benefits? he was family, though. it seemed complicated.

there was a surprised look at her face when she heard his question. “I thought it was obvious why. those past few days… you were amazing and you took such good care of me and now I feel almost normal. so yeah, thank you.” the explanation was enough and she felt quite happy about everything at that moment. especially about coming back. she didn’t really think about it – she suddenly decided it would be nice to go back to philadelphia and so she went. she just nodded her head yes. family. she loved them, each and every one of them. he expressed the concern for her and she smiled to show him she was more than okay. “I feel better. as a matter of fact, I feel great.” she refused to say more about that. it wasn’t something she liked discussing at all so she rather took a sip of the wine instead of continuing.

"I wouldn't exactly be calling it a wedding day, it was more of a bank-account-emptying-day," he chucked. They spent a whole bunch of money on it (most was their parents' cash, but still, he somehow repaid them in the later years) and it was close to perfect. Except the baby, they've already had Jamie back then and it was hard to plan anything with him around, the honeymoon, the whole party, when you had to think about the little human, of your flesh and blood. "But hey, I don't regret anything, it was probably destined to be this way anyway." They tried to fix it at first, but … they just couldn't. He's done a terrible thing and there was no such thing in the world he could do to make it go away. Not that he'd do that … Louise was the best thing that has happened to him, apart from Emma and the kids.

"Well it wasn't that hard, you were a great patient," he smiled slyly at her, picking up the glass again and taking it to his lips. It was sweet, but with a tad bit of bitter aftertaste. Just like her. "Great news. I think you'll be able to go back to work now … and your everyday routine. As much as I'd like to have you all to myself, I have a feeling you wouldn't agree to that." She had a hotel to manage and probably some friends she wanted to hang out with and he's not going to stand in the way of that, no way. "I'd still like to talk about one thing, though. You and me, Emma. It's been … it's been great, more than great…" she probably knew what he meant, what he wanted to point out.

“honestly, jack, I still have it in my memory as one of the best days in my life. don’t go ruining it now, after all these years, with talking about it like that. yeah, it might’ve been that too, but then again, it was my wedding day. I really loved that dress,” she smiled widely as she remembered the prettiest white dress she had ever seen and she immediately had to buy it. “and oh god, your face when you saw me in it...” she was the one chuckling now, because the memory was very alive in her mind. yeah, she was very happy that day.

she shrugged. “yeah, a great patient. except when I was distracting you, right?” she had to tease him a little. she spent an awful lot of past days under the blankets, but it wasn’t a secret that she was naked. she liked the feeling of cold sheets on her skin and it made her relaxed. she smiled as he spoke and nodded her head yes. “it is going to be good, not having to rest all the time,” she noted. besides, they needed her in the hotel. she never excepted herself to be that good at the job when she accepted the offer, but she was and she loved it. she looked at him as he went on talking and then she put the glass down. “yes, it was quite amazing,” she agreed with his words, even though she couldn’t say she was totally sure where he was going with that. “we’ve always been great together.” it was a simple comment – and it was completely true. until, of course, they started fighting.

"Oh come on, how could I possibly ruin it just by saying that? Of course it was great, god, we were both so young and you … you were gorgeous. I remember Jamie hiding under your dress that night," his lips curled upwards when he recollected some oh so very important memories of their day. Of the day Emma Thompson became Emma Aldridge. "Well … I was stunned. I haven't seen you in that dress before, it was very … ummm, graceful I suppose." It was a one time thing … the wedding. He doesn't think he'll ever get remarried, even if he finds someone he loves just as much or even more than his ex wife. It's just not for him, this marriage thing.

"Yeah well, I didn't really mind you distracting me, you should keep doing that, come down to my office some time," he playfully suggested and dropped his hand down onto hers. Wow, they really were good together. They found their way back to each other and they still knew exactly how to deal with one another. Like two puzzle pieces. "You'll have to be more careful though. I wanted to talk about something, though. I thought you'd be less likely to freak out in public than at home," he chuckled and then spoke again before she could even begin to intervene, "security, Emma, for you and Jill. I want you both safe and I guess this is the only way." Of course she'll get to pick her own guard, but they have to discuss Jill. She will surely say no, so he intended to go for it without her knowledge of it. Security will just follow her around in the evenings and make sure she gets home safely, that's it - not too invasive he guessed.

“why thank you,” she smiled as he called her gorgeous. “we were much younger indeed. but then again, I am still gorgeous,” she chuckled now, not being too serious about it. she sometimes didn’t know what she was. but she knew she was aging good – that much was for sure. she looked at him as he tried to find a good description of her dress. “it was a nice dress. but then again, it was probably the only time in my life I wore a wedding dress,” she smiled. she honestly didn’t have any intentions of remarrying. it seemed too complicated not. “it’s too fragile, the whole wedding thing,” she noted with a sigh.

there was a wide smile on her face as he changed the topic. “I’d really like to say that I am more classy than that, but I just realized I’m not,” she commented his words. she had the craziest ideas, they both knew that. she was also the type of person to always make her ideas happen. she was fearless when it came to that. she looked at him as he spoke again and thought about his words for few second until she finally said “oh my god, jack, seriously?” because there was nothing else she could actually say. “darling, you know me too well. fine,” she gave up trying to think about all the possible ways of stopping the conversation to happen. “jill? yeah, maybe. it could be a good idea, even though you do realize that you sound a bit paranoid? as I said; it could be a good idea. but if she ever finds out, she will hate you. she is way too much like me to react any other way,” she warned him and then shook her head no. “and me? no. I don’t need anyone watching my back. I don’t want anyone following me. god, jack, are you even serious right now?” there was a thoughtful look on her face now. she did not approve of that; no matter what happened.

"Oh, you're so modest, Emma, always have been," he laughed at her when she suggested being gorgeous. Of course she was, and partly it was for the fact she was so confident. "But you never know, maybe we both meet someone new, someone special, we can have a double wedding then," he obviously joked, although life was full of surprises, very unpredictable and anything could happen really. Not the double wedding, surely, but the meeting someone part.

"Something like that, yeah, I'm glad to give you some new ideas, really looking forward to seeing you tomorrow … in my office." Just by glancing at her he could imagine all the things he'd want to do to her if she actually came, and by look on her face, he realised she was probably planning something as well. The security talk, though, it started quite good. Her voice wasn't all high pitched yet and she looked calm, too calm actually. "I'm glad you think it's a good idea. I'm worried about Jill having her own apartment and walking the streets alone, especially at night. You know the world better, you know and realise very well that it's full of crappy people, but I'm not that sure about her and she needs to be safe. She's only nineteen, Emma." The look on his face was worried, but loving. He just adored his little girl and he still treated her like one. "You on the other hand … I want you to know I'm getting a guard for you too, whatever you say, whatever you do, get over it, because four of them will be at my house tomorrow, you're lucky you get to choose who you want." Okay, it words flew out of his mouth, but Emma won't just nod, she'll fight … she always fought.

“no,” she said with a tiny smile on her face, “we both know that modest is not the right word,” she grinned because she knew very well she wasn’t that. well, at least not the definition of it, but then again, what did it matter now? she was a bit surprised as he started talking again and then slowly shook her head no. “jack, honey I’m never getting married again,” she announced with a smile. it was stressful enough the first time. “so I am very sorry, but that’s a no for your double wedding,” she informed him and grinned again. she forgot just how well he knew how to make her laugh.

she just smiled at him with one of her mysterious smiles when he mentioned tomorrow and his office. who knew? maybe that was a good idea, even though she had a slightly different idea in her mind. but that wasn’t important right now – she will have more than enough time to work on that later. “honey, I didn’t say I think it’s a good idea. it could be. but jill is nineteen, that’s the point. and you will never be able to fully protect her again,” she said with a calm voice and her hand gently squeezed his before she intertwined their fingers. “but I don’t want a guard. I don’t need someone to look over me. I don’t want anyone to do that. is it too much if I ask you to respect my wish?” she was still calm and she was trying quite hard to stay that way. was he really trying to get her a huge babysitter with a gun?
